"My earliest memory of my dad is probably of him somewhere in a garden covered in dirt, somewhere hot, a tropical garden, in jeans, khakis, covered in dirt just continuously planting trees. I think that’s what I thought he did for the first seven years of my life. I was completely unaware that he had anything to do with music. I came home one day from school after being chased by kids singing ‘Yellow Submarine’, and I didn’t understand why. It just seemed surreal: why are they singing that song to me? I came home and I freaked out on my dad: ‘Why didn’t you tell me you were in The Beatles?’ And he said, ‘Oh, sorry. Probably should have told you that.’"

This picture makes me think of those hectic mornings before leaving for the beach. When I was younger, it was my mom attempting to wrangle my sisters and I into the car and already bathed in sunscreen before getting to touch as much as a shell. Or skipping/leaving early in high school just to spend the day at South Point and timing everything just perfectly to not get caught. When I finally reached my destination, that is when I truly felt at home and despite what happened beforehand what I knew I would have the most perfect day. I am balanced out by you all of my anxiety about things are silenced and overcome and swallowed whole just like waves at the beach.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Isak Dinesen “The cure for anything is salt water- sweat, tears, or the sea.”
